Blogging at Your Own Domain Name

A discussion over at The Blog Herald, some people adversely decide whether they should spend (waste?) time reading blogs that have url’s ending in “.blogspot.com” or “.wordpress.com”. To some, these url addresses bring negative connotations as to the contents of the blog, although this may not always be the case.

Everyone, indeed, can just simply create a new blog over those sites (blogger and wordpress.com) anytime for free. How sure can you be that the blog created from these sites you have bumped into is current, meaning maintained regularly and that the blogger was serious about it (which takes me back into wondering what’s the idea behind http:/deloittephilippines.multiply.com). The Dangers of Offloading Images

Jonathan Bailey over at the Blog Herald stress out the dangers of uploading your images in photo sharing sites like flickr, webshots, and photobucket. Of the three examples, flickr appears to be the lesser evil huh! I likewise wonder who among us have the patience to actually read TOS (Terms of Service) word for word before clicking the “I Agree” button? 😀

Ex-Deloitte Philippines Information Hub

The Ex-Deloitte Philippines Information Hub is officially launched. No cutting of ribbons, really. Just putting up the website online.

The site was designed to cater to the former C.L. Manabat & Co. (Deloitte – Philippines) professionals, wherever side of the world they currently are, as a common online hang out. A community where former officemates may meet and greet each other, discuss in forums and topics of common interests, and reminisce the moments we shared during our long or even short stints in the firm.

So, calling all ex-CLMC employees to register and sign-up now for a new account. I look forward to meeting you there.

Lulu Hypermarket Tries to Detain Shopper

Mavi’s of Life on the Spot tells her story of how Lulu Hypermarket staff and security tried to “illegally” detain her. I think this whole incident can be attributed to irrational thinking by some people out there. This atmosphere, I believe, would still stay for a while. I just hope more people there should start thinking out of the box. So, boycott Lulu Hypermarket!

The Letter Says: “Passed”

Foreword: The registrar transfer for the domain name, “deuts.net”, is really giving me headaches. I can’t wait for the 7 days buffer before the losing registrar actually releases the domain name to the new one. So, we may encounter problems related to this transfer, such as we may sometimes find this site offline.

Anyway, let’s get to the real purpose of this post. Just received my letter today. It was dated January 23, 2008 and this is what it has to say:

WebHost Shift for Deuts.Net

Indeed, the only thing that’s permanent in this world is change.

Because of increasing projects and a need for more webspace, more bandwidth, and more domain names to accomodate into one hosting account, I’ve decided to shift from a previous hosting account with PlogHost to a new one in Bluehost.

I have been with PlogHost for almost two years now, and my experience with them has proved to be satisfactory. I experienced a number of downtimes during those times, but yeah, not really to the extent of reaching an alarm level. Overall, considering the cost at which I was paying them, it’s all worth it. I would really recommend Ploghost to bloggers and website owners who are especially just starting out and residing in the Philippines. Add that to the fact that the owner, Abe of Yugatech.com, has been very accomodating to my request for a leeway as my account was overshooting my monthly bandwidth limit for the month of January 2008.

Anyway, the year is yet very young, and a good way to start it off with a new webhost and a new design. Looking forward to more blogging years with Bluehost.

Bobby Fischer, 1943–2008

One of the world’s greatest chess geniuses, Bobby Fischer, has died at the age of 64. A spokesman for Fischer said the former world chess champion passed away in a Reykjavik hospital yesterday. The US-born former world chess champion, who became famous around the world for beating the Soviet Union’s Boris Spassky in 1972, had been seriously ill for some time. Rest in Peace, Bobby.
