Successful Transfer of Blog to WordPress.com

After so many years (7 and a half years) of self-hosting this blog, I’ve decided to move it WordPress.com.

That way it would be:

  • Cheaper — I have to spend for the domain mapping ($13) and registration only per year;
  • More Secure — I have 2-step authentication in place;
  • Less Downtime — I suppose, it’s WordPress.com for speaking out loud!
  • Free Storage — I don’t think I’ll be able to use all the free 3GB of allowed images by the service — for the life of this blog.
  • It’s here to stay — Again, I suppose. WordPress has been challenged by so many but it will be here to stay.

I have always aimed for the minimalist design. I’m tired of fully customizing my blog. I just want a simple blog that I can write everything that interests me.

The need for a new unique user ID

I need a new unique user ID that’s truly representative of me and at least 8 characters long, to cover all requirements of various online services that I sign up for. Obviously, “deuts” won’t cut it anymore.

It has to be extremely unique so I won’t find it a hassle anymore to be the first to grab the username everytime I sign up for a new service.

Any suggestion is welcome.

Visita Iglesia 2013 — A Walkathon Around Makati

It was a little over 10K walkathon for me this Good Friday as I visited seven (7) churches around and about Makati’s business district.

The route I took is as follows:

Justin Bieber and a Dozen Arabs

I’m still dejected following the nation’s pride, Manny Pacquiao’s devastating sixth round KO loss to Juan Manuel Marquez in their fourth match up. Not a few people have urged him to hang up his gloves especially after absorbing that vicious punch which rendered him unconscious for a time.

My take on these calls for retirement initially was that:

If I am Pacquiao, there’s no way on earth that I will allow that my last image as a fighter and only eight division world champion be one that is face down on the canvas. What I will do is rid myself of all distractions, train as if I haven’t won anything and as if I’m broke. Fight ferociously driven by that KO image in my mind. Rio Tuba Nickel Mining and Taganito Mining TV Ads

Advocates of anti-mining movements assert that host communities do not profit from mining activities in their area. That is not especially true in the case of Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corp. and Taganito Mining Corp. (both are subsidiaries of Nickel Asia Corporation), and other “responsible” mining companies in the country.

We know very well who will win in this epic but future (i.e., if it ever happens at all) battle between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather. But the question is — how?

NBA 2012 PlayOffs Fearless Forecast

I remember tweeting yesterday:

Fearless forecast? It’s gonna be PHI vs. IND in the Eastern Conf. Finals, and OKC vs. IND in the Finals. And OKC will sweep it all the way. — deuts

These forecasts can be further broken down into 6 detailed predictions based on the ongoing Conference Semifinals as follows:

  1. The Oklahoma City Thunder will sweep the Lakers (4-0) in the Western Conference Semifinals;
  2. The Oklahoma City Thunder will sweep (4-0) whoever they play with in the Western Conference Finals;
  3. The Oklahoma City Thunder will sweep (4-0) whoever they play with in the NBA 2012 Finals;
  4. The Philadelphia 76ers will beat Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Semifinals;
  5. The Indiana Pacers will beat Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Semifinals; and
  6. The Indiana Pacers will beat the Sixers in the Eastern Conference Finals.

After the Thunder lost to the Lakers earlier, one of my predictions is already down. Let’s see which of the other 5 will come out correct.

Jim Paredes on APO’s role in Edsa 2

I admired Jim Paredes’ response to a question brought to him on Twitter using the hashtag #ASKaQuestion.

The question:

@Jimparedes did you ever regret ur role in edsa 2 dat installed a more corrupt president? #ASKaQUESTION

His response posted on his Tumblr:

No. It was better to act than not to act. We came with good intentions. We did not fail the Filipino nation. GMA did. We cannot take responsibilities for her actions. We did our share.

Honestly, I haven’t looked at it from that perspective — what the Filipino people had done in EDSA 2 (no, I haven’t done any active part in that revolution). I have always thought that EDSA 2 was a failure. And now I’m starting to realize that, indeed, what Jim Paredes was saying is true! Those who took part in EDSA 2 did not fail the whole Filipino people. GMA did!

The New KFC Queuing System

For dinner today, I went to the nearest branch of KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) to indulge myself in my favorite large Hotshots plus rice. As it always happened in any KFC I was expecting a long queue at the order counter, but to my surprise this time there was none.

It appears they employed a new queuing system so that 3 or 4 counters are only taking orders while another dedicated counter for serving them. And I believe they got it right. Read more to know why »
