Chess As Part of the School Curriculum

Inquirer.net reports that the DepEd in a memo dated January 8 of this year, chess will form part of the curriculum of Elementary and High School students.

“Global studies have shown that chess is a game that improves individual organizational and analytical skills. Children when exposed to this game at an early age achieve academically better or even faster than those who have not been engaged in said game,” Lapus said.

“Likewise, chess is among the activities that help build memory skills, concentration, self-confidence, self-esteem and in making disciplined decisions,” he added.

“Playing chess provides opportunities to practice such values as perseverance, honesty, and sportsmanship,” Lapus said.

Looking for Active NBA 2K9 (PS3) Online Players

Console: Playstation3
Game: NBA 2K9

I created an online league over at 2K Sports network for NBA 2K9. I’m currently looking for active NBA 2K9 players who are willing to religiously finish each game and finish the season (no matter what their win-loss standings are). Preferebly Filipinos who are located in the Philippines, or at least living in the same time zone (GMT+8) so we’ll find a common time for playing the games.

I joined several leagues in the past, and so far either they haven’t started at all or the players appear to be not interested to start a single game. In this view, I limited the number of players to 8, with 10 games maximum for each team.

Deuts.NET Upgraded to WordPress 2.7

Upgraded, and am loving the backend. It’s just so awesome and sleek, the fresh look and everything.

I have always been excited with this release.

I did the upgrade from WordPress 2.6.5 to WordPress 2.7 using the WordPress Autumatic Upgrade plugin. For those who are worried to do the same, so far it worked for me. Just make sure to backup everything first before doing anything.

Theme and Plugin Compatibility

So far, I don’t see any compatibility issues with my current set of plugins. The pages are working fine, including the backend (admin area). That’s so far as I try visiting each of them. If anyone notice any error or bug in any pages after this upgrade, please do let me know.

WordPress 2.7 Full Features

WordPress 2.7 is reach in new exciting features. One of my favorites was paged comments and comment threads. I still have to tweak the theme in order to fully exploit these features.

Check out the full feature list of the release over at the codex.

NBA 2K9 for PS3 Worked in Standard TV

First and foremost, I’m in the Philippines. Obviously, our standard TV uses and able to play NTSC formats only for videos and video games.

Before I purchased my Sony Playstation3, I was worried that I might not be able to play NBA 2K9 in my standard TV at home. Inquiring with the local retailers at the stores only brought disappointments, as they were expressing with certainty that NBA 2K9 will only work for HDTV.

For one thing, I don’t want to entertain the idea of buying a new TV for the PS3. I was looking desperately on the web about any experience playing the game on a standard TV, but to no avail.

Browsing the Net Through Your Email Client

There are instances, in office settings, that employees are allowed to have email but not internet access. In this case, webinmail will be extremely useful to bypass this prohibition in accessing “public” websites. By public, it means web pages that are readily available without requiring an account and login just like friendster and facebook.

To request a web page by email, send an email message to [email protected] and the url in the subject line. By sending a message to the same email address and leaving a word or phrase in the subject line (not the url), webinmail will return a rediff search result for such term/word/phrase. To use google, change the subject line to “google:query” replacing query with your query keyword.

One more good thing about this service is that the web page that’s sent to your inbox, the links in the page are already converted to “mailto:” to facilitate more convenience if you want follow up web page requests.
