Wedding Photography: Take One

I attended a friend’s wedding the other night. The wedding started at 4pm and extended until the evening in Fernwood Gardens in Sanville Subdivision, Quezon City.

This photographic opportunity proved the fact that I was yet indeed an amateur when it comes to photography, especially wedding photography. I guess it was a hard lesson learned for me as I forgot to bump up the ISO to well at least 800 as darkness crept into that night. The ISO settings in my camera was pegged at 100 until I realized my grave mistake, and with a telephoto lens of 85mm, I came up with lots of blurry images due to camera shake. At the end of the day, at least I learned one.

The Flickr Way

I have always regarded flickr as a social photo sharing site. As a matter of fact it is, indeed. It’s a place where you can comment on other people’s photos while they can comment as well in yours. It’s one major factor why I upgraded to a “pro” account (well, actually someone purchased it for me.LOL)

But, what if another flickr user blocked you from his photostream?

The heck with that! I’ll just unsubscribe to his photostream. You find me annoying? I’m not going to visit that stream again! You’re just recycling your photos, anyway. You’ll see the same photo uploaded long ago coming back to the front page.

You think you’re a better photographer than me? Probably, yes. In fact, yes! You’re a professional making a living out of it, while I’m just a lowly amateur hobbyist. But from this moment on, you’ll no longer be my idol. 🙁

Do you think this is a rant? No way. I’m laughing out of it. The thing is, I don’t really care! 🙂

Where in the World

I would like to start a meme of my own. I want to call it “Where in the World is this Place?” I’ll be featuring photos from deuts.net photography. Those of you who know the place or would like to make a guess may leave a comment below.

Here goes: I took this picture in a prohibited place to take pictures, which I guess only applies to DSLR but not to P&S and camera phones.

Sports Photography: Take One

This was my first try at sports photography. I needed a fast shutter speed to freeze the action. However, the venue was at the Philippine Navy Gymnasium in Fort Bonifacio, whose only source of light was from the windows, which could also serve as a harsh background when framing directly towards them.

How I did it

Because of the limited amount of light entering the gymnasium, I bumped up the ISO to 1600, and set the camera mode to shutter priority (Tv). I noticed that a shutter speed of 1/250 of a second is not enough to freeze the hard packed action, so I increased it a third increment to 1/320 sec. Then I tried positioning myself on a higher ground while avoiding shooting directly against the windows.

A lot of my pictures were underexposed, so I just adjusted them in photoshop, which contributed more (ISO 1600, remember?) in a lot of noise in the pictures.
