Notes on the 'Ghost Protocol'

IMDB: Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol:

The IMF is shut down when it’s implicated in the bombing of the Kremlin, causing Ethan Hunt and his new team to go rogue to clear their organization’s name.

Two points about the movie I would like to raise:

  • The movie, it seems to me, has been flaunting iPhones and iPads as their mobile device of choice. I actually wonder if it were an Apple Inc. Production?
  • They have always been telling their agents as: “Your mission, should you wish to accept, is…” In the four M:I movies, I have yet to see someone decline a mission, so why bother with the phrase “Should you wish to accept?” #kidding

Deception

The life of an accountant[1. In this context, we will refer to all accountants in different fields/practices as accountants, including general accountants, auditors, tax practitioners, finance, etc. ] is boring. Let me tell you why:

We have seen blockbuster movies telling stories about the lives of lawyers, doctors, military and police personnel, sales people, and even stock brokers. But how many movies have you seen that feature the main character playing the role of an accountant?

Not too many, right? That is, if you can remember one at all. The life of an accountant is so dull that scriptwriters can hardly think of an interesting storyline about it.

However, in the 2008 movie, “Deception“, starring Ewan McGregor (as Jonathan McQuarry), Hugh Jackman (as Wyatt Bose), and Michelle Williams (as S):

An accountant is introduced to a mysterious sex club known as The List by his lawyer friend. But in this new world, he soon becomes the prime suspect in a woman’s disappearance and a multi-million dollar heist.

Ewan McGregor played the role of an Audit Manager for a fictional accounting firm “Worth & Berman”. Yet, the movie paints a typical accountant/auditor as living a boring life, working late most of the times, zero social life, and a monotonous home-work-home routine. I believe the movie even portrays accounting as not-so-lucrative profession. Continue Reading »

Phenomenon

An ordinary man sees a bright light descend from the sky, and discovers he now has super-intelligence and telekinesis. — via IMDB

I remember watching this movie way back in college (I think). This is one of the few movies I actually watched at a movie theater during those days. I watched it again recently and just then realized this should instantly qualify as one of my favorite movies. I just loved how George Malley (John Travolta) transformed into a person who can absorb a vast amount of knowledge from reading 3 to 4 books a day. Add that to his super-abilities to process and calculate information.

But of course, my favorite line was, when they found out that George was sick — a tumor in his brain — and is dying, he and Lace Pennamin (Kyra Sedgwick) had this dialogue:

George Malley: Hey, would you, uh, love me the rest of my life?
Lace Pennamin: No. I’m gonna love you for the rest of mine.

From NU 107 to DigRadio.ph – A Wish for an iPhone App

I have missed the music that is NU 107, especially since it signed off in November 2010. Rock & Roll world rejoiced when the former DJ’s of NU 107 put up an online music streaming site at digradio.ph to continue that music we have known. Yet, I always find it inconvenient to be able to listen to it only via my laptop.

So here’s a wish for an official iPhone app soon.

Digradio.ph is a step in the right direction for us rock fans to continue converge in one common music ground. So I hope they come up with mobile apps soon for the iPhone, Android, and BlackBerry.

When I Got Into the World of EOS

This is the old commercial of the Canon EOS 350D that actually inspired me to take up photography as a hobby:

I once was hooked into photography that I bought every accessory I could barely afford. Now, it’s so sad to see them just lying around, gathering dusts. ‘Continue Reading When I Got Into the World of EOS’

Android, iPhone4, and Windows Phone 7, Which Grills Fast?

Warning: the video below contains scenes that may not be so totally acceptable to the faint of heart geeks.

This video is a marketing campaign for the EZGrill disposable grill. I know the idea is not original, as we’ve seen videos like “Will it Blend?” before. Yet, they got our attention just the same.

Who wouldn’t when these people are burning some iPhone4, Android G2, and a Windows Phone 7 HTC Surround:

The Android G2 went out first, followed by the iPhone4, and the HTC Surround lasted the longest.

We could only wish they gave any one of them to us instead.

The 45th UP Hamili Brotherhood Anniversary Celebration

After 45 years, some founding members joined the younger ones (and the young at heart) to grace the celebration of the Manila-based Su-ons of the 45th year anniversary of the UP Hamili Brotherhood at the Mutinational Village in Parañaque City.

To further grace the occasion, of course, are the foods, drinks, music and the fun:
