Bullet Points: Photography, Eraserheads, Credit Cards

147xxxx – Starbucks Barista

Making your latte, working with the motto "just say yes," dealing with the hobos, the clueless, the regulars, and amazing(ly dumb) customers. I'm your starbucks barista.

Published for Credit?

Would you be sufficed with just credit (instead of cash) for your photos used in a magazine publication? If it’s a non-commercial publication, my answer would be a big Yes! But if it’s for commercial, I would like to think twice.

This is the same question that Marky posted on me when he was asked for his photo to be published in some magazine, I can’t remember the details anymore. But for me, as long as the user does not gain any financial benefit from the use of my photo, I would consider it a big favor and honor that someone liked my photos. Just like when someone asked me to use the photo “Our Lady of Penafrancia” I shot in the Manila Cathedral last year:

Synchronized Swimming – Doha Asian Games 2006

I was browsing my archives the other day, and I stumbled upon this video taken (I think it was by Cliff) during the Doha Asian Games 2006 Synchronized Swimming Competition.

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHoABtDE7NU&hl=en&fs=1]

If I’m not mistaken, it is the team China that’s in the video. For sure, the same team will compete in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Here’s the video from an official TV perspective complete with some underwater view.

Why the Eraserheads’ reunion concert sucks

But I won’t line up to watch this concert. In fact, I will declare here that, perhaps for the first time, the Eheads, in agreeing to do this reunion concert, did something really stupid, if not downright unethical. Their breakup, I totally get. But this… this just sucks.

I don’t really care whether it was the sponsor or the band members that was/were opportunist/s, and made money in the process. We are talking here about the music, and the revolution of music since the 90’s. So why would I care? I’ll go to the concert when I get the chance!

Credit Card Debt Management

When you want something very badly and don’t have the cash available, you might be tempted to use your credit card without any clear idea of how you will pay for your statement when it comes. Chances are, you will fall into the credit card debt trap. To help you strengthen your discipline not to fall into the temptation, it is good for you to understand what you will have to go through if you ever get into credit card debt. If you are already in credit card debt, then it will be good for you to take heed of the advice.

It’s been my practice not to borrow (either borrowing personally or purchasing through credit card) unless I have a clear plan on how I will pay the debt back, either from my salary or from any expected cash inflow. And you can always take heed this advice on how to avoid the credit card debt trap. If you are already swarming in debt due to credit cards, this advice covers as well how you can trump them one by one.

If I’m there, I’d definitely go to Eheads’ concert. =) For now I’ll just content myself listening to Anthology album. I’m so into it that I even blogged about it.

Credit cards are good if used with discipline. Otherwise, don’t own one at all.

Yup, credit cards can be used to delay your payments and in effect plan your expenses and maximize the time value of money at your hands. But it shouldn’t be used to incur a debt you have no means of paying. 😀

I strongly agree! When you don’t pay your credit card in full it’s like giving money to the credit card company. The amount of fees and interest they charge if you just pay the minimum amount is just rediculous that it would take almost 10 to 15 years to pay the whole amount!

I miss listening to Eheads Jo.. You should let me copy their songs when I go back this December! ok?

Hey Mr Wilson, I can let you copy the whole of my music library. Just prepare at least 80gb of hard drive space.
