The 45th UP Hamili Brotherhood Anniversary Celebration

After 45 years, some founding members joined the younger ones (and the young at heart) to grace the celebration of the Manila-based Su-ons of the 45th year anniversary of the UP Hamili Brotherhood at the Mutinational Village in Parañaque City.

To further grace the occasion, of course, are the foods, drinks, music and the fun:

Sigabong 2010 – Clash XXII: The Renaissance of Faith

The UP Hamili Brotherhood and UP Hamilia Sisterhood present the 22nd Edition of Sigabong – a prestigious annual battle of the bands in Iloilo City. This year’s edition features an Inter-School Battle of the Bands and will be held on March 6, 2010, 7:00 PM at Iloilo Capitol Grounds.

Participants to this event will include bands from:

St. Therese College;
Iloilo National High School;
University of San Agustin;
Western Institute of Technology;
John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University;
Collegio de San Jose;
Central Philippines University;
Alimodian National High School;
West Visayas State University; and
Iloilo Doctors College;

Which brings to mind: it’s been more than 10 years since my first experience as a resident when we held Sigabong in 1999. That really was a long time ago.

Good luck to the resident Su-ons from the UP Hamili Brotherhood and UP Hamilia Sisterhood. Cheers to your success!

Okay, not to confuse with the real life NBA, this was just a clip from my favorite Playstation 3 game, the NBA 2k9. Deuts Ambuscade was a created player of mine and a superstar playing for the San Antonio Spurs.

Sungha Jung: The Next Youtube Sensation?

As is usually the case, what determines the success of a great musician is how great he/she is at his favorite musical instrument as well as at singing. They usually go together. The chances of success when you’re only playing an instrument is lower than when you can do both well at your instrument and singing.

Oftentimes, in a rock band or any musical band for that matter, the vocalist becomes more popular than everyone else.

The number of artists who are popular for their singing (some even no nothing about the piano or guitar) far exceeds the number of artists who are only known for their craft in guitar, piano, drums, and other musical instruments.

So, if you ask me, will Sungha Jung be the next Youtube sensation? I’m not really sure. I’m quite pessimistic on this. He might already be a sensation with millions of views for each of his videos on Youtube. At a young age, he surely plays the guitar very well. Watch this video as he played Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean:

But he’s not the only kid to play the guitar (or any musical instrument for that matter) very well at such a young age. Some of which we’ve already seen in Youtube, while some we are yet to see in the future. We’ve seen our very own (a Filipino) Enzo play “Flight of the Bumble Bee” when he was 10 years old:

He might not be as ~~exaggerated~~ amazing as Maksim, but you see he was only 10. (BTW, he played it once again when he was 13, watch it here.)

Anyway, my point is, if Sungha Jung wants to take this Youtube limelight to the next level, he should learn to sing.

The Shallow Story Behind Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen

I watched the Transformers 2 the other weekend, and my impression about it, it got a very shallow storyline. It got one straightforward story, added with action-packed scenes and some drama.

This was supported by the review over at Yahoo!:

“Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” made over $200 million last week. What it didn’t make, however, was one lick of sense.

The review, entitled: “Burning Questions: The 10 Most Confusing Things in ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’“, my favorite was no. 9:

Sam briefly dies and goes to Robot Heaven. Robot Heaven?!?!

I find the list very true in every case. How I just wish I could copy and paste the whole article here. But, nevertheless, visit the original article here and read them for yourself and be entertained.

That was one example of a bad movie. How I wish I just waited for bootleg copies instead. I could have saved myself some money.

Sherlock Holmes Turned into an Action Star

I used to love reading Sherlock Holmes stories. He was witty, smart, he introduced the science of deduction. But I never imagined him to be an action star.

Some of the comments found in the youtube page criticizing the trailer (thus, the movie), which I agree as well:

Why is Sherlock Holmes bare-knuckle boxing? This looks like a ludicrous, horrific murder of an english literary great.

I agree. They ruined a master-piece and turned it into a farce. They turned aristocratic, intelligent, and modest Holmes, into some Bourne, or James Bond figure. Can’t watch this.

Of course, in Chapter 2, “Mr. Sherlock Holmes”, of the first book, “A Study in Scarlet”, Dr. Watson described Sherlock Holmes as an “expert singlestick player, boxer, and swordsman”. But in the movie, I would least expect him to be an action super hero.

The film makers, I guess, have to do this to put more drama and excitement, to the extent of painting another image of the great legend, “Mr. Sherlock Holmes”.

The Most Celebrated Video Scandal of 2009

Perhaps you reached this page hoping to get maybe even a glimpse of the video I’m talking about. Well I’m sorry to disappoint you but you won’t get to watch any video here nor get any link to the videos.

Anyway, in the recent developments, Dr. Hayden Kho expressed his apology and regret over the whole scandal in an interview by GMA Network. I wonder though, did he regret for recording the video beyond the awareness of his partner or for failure to have discovered beforehand about truecrypt?

TrueCrypt is a software application used for real-time on-the-fly encryption. It can create a virtual encrypted disk within a file or a device-hosted encrypted volume on either an individual partition or an entire storage device. It supports Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux (using FUSE) and encrypted volumes can be made portable. The version for Windows Vista or XP can encrypt the boot partition or entire boot drive and has the ability to create and run a hidden encrypted operating system whose existence is deniable.

Okay, don’t get me wrong. I believe that recording a video of your sexual act beyond the awareness and consent of your partner is plain “retarded-ness” at best (I mean there could be worse descriptions). And failure to secure and encrypt those stupid videos is a grave blunder.
