LAS VEGAS — Nonito Donaire unanimously outpointed Rafael Concepcion on Saturday night in his first super flyweight fight to take the WBA interim title.
Donaire, the 26-year-old Filipino star who vacated his IBF flyweight title to move up in weight, improved to 22-1 with his 21st consecutive victory. Judge Max De Luca scored the fight 117-111, Duane Ford had it 115-113, and Jerry Roth called it 116-112.
Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines did it once again in his fight against Marco Antonio Barrera of Mexico yesterday.
The fight was decided, though, in a unanimous decision after 12 rounds of boxing action, against speculations or projections of a four to six rounds knock-out in favor of Pacquiao.
Everytime there’s a Pacquiao match, the world of every Filipino appears to stop from revolving, just in order to catch the developments in the match. Commentators and politicians alike talk about the fate of the Filipino people are on his (Pacquiao’s) shoulders.
I wonder, it could really be so burdensome for him to be assigned with such task. What if Pacquiao failed, or if he fails in the future? Does that mean the Philippines will crumble as well?

Manny Pacquiao, before the bout, was quoted saying:
Morales will fee the strength of the people of The Philippines behind every punch I land on him. This may be the ‘Grand Finale’ on our trilogy, but it is just the beginning for Manny Pacquiao.
Both fighters came out with heedless aggression, and Pacquiao first knocked Morales down against the ropes late in the second round. Morales kept returning shots, but couldn’t keep up with Pacquiao’s pace — and after a knockdown midway through the third, Pacquiao finished him with a devastating left hook with just 3 seconds left.
Being here in Qatar, we’ve not much news about this match. I’m actually wondering, what was Manny’s theme song for this fight? How much who’s bet?
Moreover, are we even sure that the rivalry beween Pacquiao and Morales is confined only in this “trilogy”, thus “The Grand Finale”?
