A Short Photo Op with GM Wesley So

Me with GM Wesley So

I just grabbed this opportunity to have a photo taken with the future chess superstar who will hopefully someday join the ranks of super GM’s like Viswanathan Anand, Veselin Topalov, and Vladimir Kramnik. I know that it may yet be far from reality, but who knows, being the youngest grandmaster in the world of chess, Filipino Wesley So has still a long way to go.

This photo was taken earlier today at the 11th and last round of the 2008 Battle of Grandmasters at the City State Hotel in Manila City. Even before the last round of games were played, it appears that So was already a clear winner, and will surely bring home the PhP200,000 prize money.

I haven’t yet got a hold of the actual and final results of the tournament, but once they’re available I’ll post it here together with the other pictures I took during the event. You may also visit my flickr account for updates.

More About the Picture

I know, I know. It was a mistake, when the light was exactly above us when this picture was taken. There appears to be a lot of loss of detail in the highlights in So’s cheeks and forehead. I’m sorry about that.
