A new version of “Financial Accounting I” has already been released by Atty. Conrado T. Valix and Jose Peralta. It incorporates the new standards: Philippine Accounting Standards, Philippine Financial Reporting Standards, International Accounting Standards, and International Financial Reporting Standards.
The book has a whole new different look.
It has been 5 years since I last used Valix’s book. It was like a bible during our review for the board exams. Surely, I missed those days when I was yet reading it from cover to cover.
The book can be described as concise but almost complete. Simple but full of information. The context is broad but covers almost every topic.
It seems a must that every reviewee hold a copy of this book during the review. Surely, Atty. Valix found his niche into the accountancy profession.

Tips? I think I’ve mentioned it already that Valix’s book is concise but complete. It is worthwhile to note of every statement he says in the book. They are very important. You might not find it important at first read, but I tell you, you’ll realize soon that after all you needed those information.

We are using books of foreign authors and it’s just so amazing how atty. valix’s books help us to understand somewhat complicated topics since the books that we are using are under US GAAP…I’m very thankful that mr. valix was able to make such book…

The Caballes bookstore here in Negros Oriental used to have a financial accounting 1 book 2006 edition but they run out of stock. I really needed that book because our professor required us to do so. Even the new opened National bookstore don’t have that book. I hope there will be more production of financial accounting 1 2006 edition ,volume one by Valix and Peralta. Thank you.

Also can you recommend a good book/author about Cost Accounting or Managerial Accounting? I am currently upgrading my Accounting degree here in Manitoba, Canada under a joint program by the government and CGA – Manitoba called “Internationally Trained Accountancy Program”. CGA (Certified General Accountants). This program are for new immigrants who meet and passed certain qualifications. I was able to get hold of the Financial Accounting 1 & 2 books of Mr. Valix & Mr. Peralta, 2000 edition. The books are easier to understand. I mean, straight to the point. ei, u can see all the answers of financial accounting volume 1 and 2 in Practical accounting 1 of atty valix. it really helps studying practical accounting 1 not just of valix’s but also of uberita’s… by the way, i am still using those books because i am currently studying financial accounting part 2. i hope you guys have those books as early as now. auditing problems also will do if you have time and you are very dedicated to really learn.. i can post or send to you the answers if not for the hectic days to come… goodluck then! ^_^

yeah, our school has it in its library’s internet thing. only PA1 dude and i believe it (PA1) can only be accessed inside the school and i haven’t tried it yet. hehe. By the way, Valix has no PA2, only PA1. or maybe you were asking about FA1 and FA2? ^_^

in our school kasi, mejo may discrepancy regarding the books. parang read what you want/can so long as makakakonek ka sa mga topics. in our case, pagdating sa accounting, our prof requires us to study (when i mean study, i mean really read, understand and solve) as much books as we can. most of the students in ncr, especially those accounting schools na nasa University Belt, more often than not, may mga valix books yan. yep, the financial accounting of valix is now divided into 3 volumes. dunno what happened, but i believe, it’s because of the demand. maraming bumibili eh, kaya ganun, more profit. if you get what i mean. hehe. un! i believe, pare parehas lang ang laman ng financial accounting books niya starting 2006. kasi ang alam ko 2005 pa nagkaroon ng amendments sa standards. hehe.. sige, gudluck ulit! keep posting. hehe. ^_^

I’m looking for other accounting books written by Valix(the basic accounting books to be speific) because it’s my first year in San Beda College, Manila and I have difficulties of attending accounting classes due to schedule problems. Kukuha din ako ng exam this October, ang latest news is ihihiwalay na ang Taxation sa Business Law. So 8 board subjects na at nagpaplano na sila na magdagdag ng Marketing, Business Finance and Eco.

Yung marketing, business finance at eco ay matatagalan pa pero yung taxation daw this October na daw. Prof ang nagsabi samin nun kasi may access sya sa PICPA. Medyo mahirap pero goodluck sa atin.

I like to have a copy of Valix Financial Acctg Vol 1 & 2. Been away for 3 years now so I dont know what is the newest edition. I have passed the board year 2003 and currently living in NZ now & working in one of the top accounting firm. I am trying to requalify and like to do a wee bit of reading of IAS (NZ is based on chartered acctg and just about to adopt IAS) As far as I know eh IAS basis ni Valix. Valix’s books were the one I used before and sabi mo nga nakabisa ko din ng cover to cover Color green and maroon pa nga noon).

I am going to take the board exam this October 2008 and Ill have my review at CPAR. Kaya lang, wala akong kakilala sa Manila para makasama sa dormitory, kasi ang requirement nila eh 2 persons for 10,000, few steps away from CPAR lang ang layo nya. Meron ba rito?

tanong ko lang po kung ano bang book ang maganda sa practical accounting 2. kasi sabi nila guerrero sa book at dayag naman sa reviewer. ok yung kay dayag ang problem dun sa guerrero di sya tulad ng kay valix na halos complete with example ang dami pang typo. wla bang ibang book na pwede para sa prac 2 aside from kay guerrero? and sa auditing theory then meron ba kayong masusuggest na magandang book na simple lang pero concise parang kay valix. kasi yung kay cabrera nakakalula sa kapal at sa dami. prang di ko kayang basahin in just one month. since meron din naman akong binabasang ibang accounting books bukod dun. ano bang magandang way para matutunan lahat yung basic auditing theory?kasi wla tlaga akong natutunan dun nung undergrad.

Im from Las Pinas College. May dormitory dun malapit sa CPAR, sa Rovelco. May room daw sila na aircon fixed 10,000, kung dalawa kami bali tag 5000 kami pero hiwalay din daw bayad sa kuryente. Pang 4 persons naman yung kwarto kaya ok na din, Gusto ko lang ng maluwag dahil kumpleto ako sa reviewers at textbooks kaya kailangan ko ng paglalagyan nito. Kaya lang hindi daw sila ang maghahanap ng makakasama sa room, kundi ako daw, kaya lang wala talaga akong kakilala na magboboard exam at magdodorm etong May. Kung sino man ang naghahanap din dito ng roommate, pasabi lang din sakin para maghati na lang kami. Salamat.
Sa Practical 2, ang basic training yung kay P.Guerrero, at next stage yung kay Dayag, Mas maraming dagdag yung kay Dayag.

okay nga yun. pero pwede bang medyo upgraded? prang yahoo answers or sa friendster. yun bang pwedeng magpost ng questions then pwedeng bigyan ng sagot pero for that particular question. unlike here na pag may nagtanong kasi yung mga sumagot di mo agad makikita unless babasahin mo lahat and minsan di na talaga nakikita. kasi halo halo na. para yung ibang question dina nauulit. kasi sa question pa lang alam na nila na yun yung gusto nilang malaman. suggestion lang po.. sana wlang magalit.
and dagdag pa. another suggestion if pwede. kung pwede rin po bang may portion na parang pwede silang magask ng particular question sa accounting like problems. then kung sino yung gustong sumagot syempre sagutin nila, in that way na katulong na sa mga undergrads then review na rin sa mga graduate na nagrereview. pero ang problem nga lang dun pwedeng iabuse ng mga nagtatanong kasi baka gawing testbank na nila tong site na to. pero its up to them naman eh. kasi if i were them ipopost ko lang yung mga sobrang important questin na usually di nasasagot sa classroom. suggestion lang po
bakit ang taas ng price ng books ni valix??di ba pwedeng presyong recto na lang yung very affordable para sa mga students??at revise nang revised pareho lang naman yung content except sa iniba lang yung case number ng mga problems..di ba pwedeng mag revised na lang pag may mga nagbago na talaga??sayang kase yung iba kong books by valix dahil pinapagamit samen yung revised edition na talaga

hi, i’m from lyceum of the philippines-laguna. ever since i started my second year college in BS Accountancy, we are using Atty. valix’s books. it’s easy to understand than any other books. though there some topics that are not discussed thoroughly, (i guess..) . i am reading almost 75% percent of each chapter before i proceed answering activities at the last part, and it’s also a great help for me to have a copy of the practical accounting. Solutions and answers are greatly discussed. :)

as far as i’m concerned, conanan publishing (publishing house of valix’s books) doesn’t issue answer keys to people other than professors. (haha i called them once, napahiya lang tuloy ako)
however, there are mirror problems of Valix’s FinAcc in his PracAcc..you can use it as a guide..

We are currently using Norma and Guillermo De Leon’s cost accounting book 2007 edition. There are so many typographical errors that have not been corrected in the previous editions. bakit ganun? kaya sa multiple choice, we choose the letter “e” as our answer kasi wala sa pamimilian and sa mga problems dun, may mga maling figures. :)
may guerrero ka na lang sa practical accounting 2. meron ding typographical errors pero mas ok siguro kesa sa book na meron ka.

Hi Rachel in as much as I would like to help you, my memory since my school days about that are a blur. We’ll just hope that someone else from this thread can help you. But I guess, any foreign authored book will do ok with cost accounting. I can’t think of any local author that discusses cost accounting in much detail.

hello mr. valix, i’m from Mondriaan Aura College in Olongapo City. I loved accounting the way it is, kea lang parang nde ako love ng accounting. Is there any reference of fin1, fin2, and cost acctg na pedeng magamit. I already finished the fin1, its just that i want to know more about fin1.

hi. in my opinion di nyo naman po kelangang bumili or humingi ng answer key sa financial accounting. sabi nung iba dun kinukuha ng prof nyo yung mga exams. kapag ginawa nyo yun para na rin kayong nagcheat at ang malala pa di kayo matututo kasi di na kayo sisipaging magaral kung may instant sagot na kayo. kung gagamitin nyo naman yung para mapractice nyo yung problems. may nabibiling mga reviewer na intended para sa pagpractice. yung PRACTICAL ACCOUNTING 1 na si valix din ang author.or yung practical accounting din ni UBERITA. yung mga taga manila madalas alam na nila to. pero yung mga taga probinsya malamang di nila alam kasi galing din ako sa probinsya and talagang nung una nahihirapan ako sa accounting sa book din ni valix kumukuha ng exams or quiz yung prof ko. pero nung magtransfer ako dito sa manila dun ko narealize marami pa lang way para maging madali basta may book ka bukod syempre kung masipag ka at matyagang magaral. payo ko lang dun sa mga taga probinsya mas maganda kung maginvest na kayo ng books para habang nasa lower accounting pa kayo mas namamaster nyo na. para pag nasa higher accounting na kayo di na kayo mahihirapan. kasi talagang babalik at babalik ulit kayo as umpisa lalo na pag nagrereview na. try nyong magcontribute sa pamasahe para may isang bibili or may luluwas. kasi nung time namin ganun ginawa namin. payo lang po. thanks

till now am not using cheats kc sabi ng mga m8s q., d ka matututo which is a big deal..for what pa para mag-CPA db?>

Converting the font to pure white will result in strong contrast between the font and the background. Mas masakit sa mata un. :D

kung di ako nagkakamali parang di ata pwede irevise ng isang author ang gawa ng ibang author unless my kakaibang agreement sila. kasi parang kabastusan yun at napakaunethical.di ako aware sa law pero tingin ko ganun yun. pwede pa siguro gumawa din sya ng book na prac 2 din ang topic.saka if im not mistaken kanya kanyang linya kasi yan eh. like si atty.valix master na nya at ang toa at prac 1 at yung si guerrero at dayag master na nila ang prac 2 kaya sila ang reviewer nun at author ng book. kumbaga kng gagawa ng book si valix baka di rin ganun kaeffective like nung linya nya which is yung toa at prac 1 nga.
tapos yung book naman ang alam ko mura na yung second hand or pirated na mabibili sa recto. un na talaga ang pinakamura eh. kelangan talaga may book. kung ipapaxerox mo naman yung book ng classmate mo aabutin ka ng mga 200 pesos eh ang brand new na pirated eh 150-250 depende kung magaling kang mambarat.
tapos yung author ng blog na to eh hindi si atty.valix. kung mababasa nyo yung lahat ng comments na to isa syang cpa board passer na mahilig sa chess at auditor in public practice ata. (not sure kung nagbago na).
ang days naman sa board exam 4days yun. normally pag october batch second and third week (sat. & sunday). pag may not sure eh madalas kasi 2 weeks sya saturday and sunday.
yung problem mo naman sa book ni guerrero na maraming error ganito gawin mo. wag ka masyadong magrely sa given na numbers. kumbaga intindihin mo yung logic nung topic wag yung numbers mismo. since accontancy naman tayo dapat malakas pick up natin sa mga ganyang bagay. tapos pag naintindihan mo na. saka ka magpractice ng problems sa reviewer ni dayag. ayun matututo ka na wala kasi ganong error dun. kung meron man acceptable naman.tsaka maraming question dun kaya pag natapos mo ok ka na..

i want to us sa mga bord passers pag sa mga reviewer sa practical accounting 1 ni mr valix, practical accounting 2 ni guerero at peralta, auditing teory ni cabrera, at auditing problems ni cabrera, eh pag dun ako ngreview pag nagkataon may pag asa ba akong pumasa sa bord marami bang kinukuha dun na kapareho sa bord exams ilang percentage ang kinkuha nila dun?o kayay kapareho ng atake ng questions?..

b naman bobo yung prof na ibigay yund solutions manual kung di pa tapos ang subj.binibigay lng yun pg tapos na ang student sa subject.kung baga png review nlng.which means it is not a form of cheating…at tsaka hndi nahuhuli ang mfa tga province sa mga strategy.tingnan mo kaya result ng board.kramihan gling school sa province
ang book ni Antonio Dayag ay Practical Accounting 2. (reviewer sya sa RESA) ang cover ng book na yun ay advance accounting 1 and 2, job order costing, cost accounting may standard costing din ata. not sure.
about naman sa mga question na binibigay sa board. actually nagrereview pa lang ako eh di ko pa natry magboard pero ang dinig ko. di naman basic. may mahirap at may madali din. kumbaga tama lang para matapos mo sa loob ng 3 hours. sbi nila nirerecycle lang daw ang mga questions lalo na sa law. kasi kwento lang to ng isang reviewer. ang member ng BOA na nagbibigay ng exams sa law ay hindi naman lawyer so mahirap kasi gumawa ng question sa isang field lalo na pag law na di mo naman master kasi baka nga naman maging bonus lahat yun. yun eh sabi lang samin.
dun naman sa mga sinabi mong book. di pa yun sapat. kasi di naman ibig sabihin na memorize mo na lahat ng procedure ng isang book ibig sabihin papasa ka na exam kasi minsan baka di rin kumuha dun yung examiner. kasi ung auditing theory na lang na book 5 na ang alam kong author. ibat iba lang sila ng approach. kaya parang 1 out 5 lang ang alam mo. dapat kasi yung logic or concept ang dapat aralin mo. kasi pareparehas lang naman laman nun magkaiba lang ng pagkadeliver,.tsaka minsan kumukuha din sila sa IAS. AICPA basta parang panginternational chuvaneses yun. di naman puro local.. basta kumbaga may testbank sila tapos kukuha sila ng mga question pwede ring gumawa ng bago o kumuha sa international.
Exam Tips

Parang maging effective ang pagaaral dapat gumawa ka ng schedule na magseserve mo as a guide. Dapat din realistic yun like for example wlang nood ng tv, socializing, labas ng bahay at ang buong schedule eh napunta sa kain, tulog at aral which is impossible kasi darating sa point na mabobore ka at di mo talaga makakaya yung ganun. Never make schedules that’s impossible for you to follow. And ang pinakaimportante wag na wag kang magpupuyat to the point na 3 hours a day ka na lang natutulog kasi di mo yun kakayanin katagalan and worst pag nagkasakit ka mas malaki ang balik nun baka lalo lang magsuffer ang pagaaral mo.

tax. okay lang naman ang tax. ang mahirap siguro yung pangactual na kapag nagwowork ka na. kasi lagi may bagong updates. yung tax kasi once maintindihan mo na yung topic or yung purpose nung bawat isa dun, madali na lang naman. sa board naman kasi yung tax at law eh tig 35 questions. masama lang sa pakiramdam na ang dami mong aaralin sa tax para lang sa 35 questions. basta pag nagtaxation ka na tapos wla namang nirequired na book si prof mo. bili ka na lang book ni reyes kasi the best un.? 2 volumes yung book nya at meron din syang reviewer.

bili ka na lang ng reviewer ni valix or uberita kasi halos ganun din naman yung style ng question sa book at sa reviewer. kung ang reason mo naman eh dahil yun ang lumalabas sa exams nyo. kalokohan na yun kasi cheating na yun. kasi sa actual board naman di allowed ang cheating kaya pangit na practice yan. meron nagcomment dito na nagbebenta ng answer keys nagbigay sya ng email add. try mo iemail pero may nagpapabayad ata sya eh.

hi bernadette, mas maganda nyan maglie low ka muna sa gimik, barkada at tv. kasi sa totoo lang yan ang sagabal sa pagaaral. di naman ibig sabihin na sobrang wag ka ng manood at makipagkaibigan. pero bawasan lang. gawa ka ng checklist ng dapat mong gawin corny mang pakinggan. kasi ako nung nagaaral pa ko. di naman ako yung pinakamagaling sa klase pero di ako bumabagsak kasi i see to it na lahat ng requirements ko napapasa ko.
kasi baka ang kulang sayo di mo alam yung dapat mong gawin para at least makaquota ka. like for instance accounting subject, alamin mo kung saan ba nagfofocus yung teacher na yun sa paggawa nya ng grades. may prof kasi na pagawa ng pagawa ng exercises pero di naman chinicheck tapos nagbabase lang sa quizzes tuloy nauubos time mo kagagawa ng exercises tapos ang ending papasok ng maaga bukas kasi mangongopya na lang kinabukasan, pag finals na malalaman mo di pala nagchecheck ng exerices , may finance teacher naman na nagfofocus sa reporting o sa projects.

next tip eh kung nahihirapan ka sa subject ganito gawin mo, kung mwf ang subjet mo maglaan ka ng 2-3 hours a day na magaral sa subj na yun at yung t-th naman para dun sa iba, give more time sa mas nahihirapan kang subj, pag nakita mo na yung bunga ng sacrifices mo di mo na kelangan mageffort na magaral next time kasi kusang gagawin mo na un kasi nageenjoy ka na magaral para mafeel mo ulit yung satisfaction ng nakakasunod at paeasy easy na lang magaral.
pag sa accounting ka nahihirapan, makinig ka ng mabuti sa prof at magtakedown note kahit di mo na nagegets. then bili ka ng books na maganda based sa mga dating students o sa librarian, then magselfstudy ka. try to solve more problems para maencounter mo yung diff problems. tiis lang then mga one month pag nasa sistema mo na yang ganyang habit. dun na magsstart yung ikaw na ang kusang maghahanap ng mga new books na gagamitin mo para mapadali ka sa pagaaral.. kung bumagsak ka man ngayong sem sana magsilbing lesson yan. itake mo ulit sa next sem saka mo gawin yung sinabi ko. tingan mo magiging magalign ka din katagalan. walang bobo sa accounting, nasa sipag yan ng studyante, kaya lang may honors sila lang yung madaling makapick up. pero kung matyaga ka lang magbasa at magsolve di malabong lumelevel ka sa kanila. promise
nkakatuwa kse mas na-a appreciate ko na financial accouting dahil sa constructive accouting namin naun. mejo hirap nun una dahil di ko maxado natutukan basic acctg 1.2 but as the days pass by, laging accounting books ang kaharap kong book parang kahit pano e naeenjoy ko na din xa. thankful ako kse nakabawi ka-agad ako, nun first year kse ako mejo di pa tlaga makpagadjust, and i can say na mejo na bigla ako., but nun acctg 3.4 na mejo nabaling atensyon ko, mejo masaya kse pagusapan ang partnership and corporation.
and now, third year na din, mas masaya na. although mahirap nun una, sabi nga nila ‘makakasanayan din talaga later on’.
i’m not really looking forward to be a CPA, kse natatakot ako madiscourage parents ko. when u took exam kase andun na ung thought and faith na papasa ka. natatakot ako maging failure. pero magtatry pa din ako, maybe after a year i graduated pa. i decided to work muna kse.
i just wanna share sa mga mei prob jan bet minor and major subs. problema ko din kase dati yan, but later on napagaralan ko na din ung takbo ng ibang minor subs. since na were not block section naman. i see to it na ung mga subs ko e will not affect my major subs. mahrap kse ung ganon. kaya i try to ask higher students kung ano ba status nun subs na un, kung demanding ba? lalo na ung humanities samin. ang daming ginagawa. ang sometimes u have to spend time with your groupmates pa kse u have to practice for your exercises chuva, xempre mababawasan na time ko with my major kaya ung mga ganon eliminated muna sa list ko. hehe. ganon lng, and i made habit na gumgawa ng things to do na nakadikit sa place na laging kong nakikita. nakakapagod na agad ako pagnakikita ko un, pero kelangan ee.

In any case joyz, you shouldn’t be totally relying on your teachers. Yes, they are a factor in your success, but the major factor really lies in yourself.
Walang magagawa ang teachers mo kahit anong galing pa nila magturo kung ikaw mismo ayaw mo matuto. Pero if it’s the other way around, kung ikaw mismo magpupursige para sa sarili mo, kahit actually hindi ka na umattend ng klase aral ka lng ng libro, matututo at matututo ka rin. Trust me, it’s based on experience.

hi, comment lng poh ako about sa book na nabili ko kamakailan lng, ung financial acctng. volume 1, 2009 edition.. ung pages poh kasi ay hndi nka bind ng mbuti, at pg nabuklat ay nahhiwalay ung iba.. tpos ung ibang pages ay mali .. gnagamit poh kasi namin ang book as our reference sa course nmin.. sna mbasa nyo ito.. salamat poh…
di naman si atty valix ang may ari nitong blog na to eh. baka nman sa recto mo nabili yun, kasi kung original yun malamang di yun masisirain, alam ko recto lang ang may trademark na kulang kulang ang pages at madaling masira.
